Cherry and Pineapple BBQ Ribs

My first time ever cooking ribs. I love ribs as a kid i would go through racks of ribs. I can remember going to a BBQ restaurant called Cowboys Grill in the small town my grandparents lived in. I had around 14 racks in there all you can eat special. Its always been one of my top 3 foods. So why not try and make my own. So why not go all out and mank some Cherry and Pineapple BBQ Short Ribs.

So to start off we have to remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. First time was not easy. I watched a few videos on it and I found making a slit in the back and then running a screwdriver along the bone and then pulling it up was the "best way" for me. It still wasn't great but i got it off. Next step in the Cherry and Pineapple BBQ Short Ribs was the rub. I use my brisket rub on these. You will find that on my brisket page. Once that was complete I started on the Cherry and Pineapple BBQ Short Ribs sauce.

Starting off with saute onions and garlic in some olive oil. Next went in the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, apple cider vinegar, and worcestershire sauce. I let the brown sugar melt then started to add the tomato paste and all the seasoning. i let it come back to a boil then added the whiskey. I used Wild Turkey 101 because that is what i had on hand, and always have on hand. Let it cook for a few more mins. then i took and added about half of it to the pan of ribs. Then i opened a can of pitted cherries and 2 cans of pineapple chunks. and poured them in with the ribs and made sure to cover the ribs. Next came the smoker for about about 4 hours to complete the Cherry and Pineapple BBQ Short Ribs.

After they come out of the smoker the Cherry and Pineapple BBQ Short Ribs are ready. I took all the sauce from the pan and added it to the blender to break up the cherry and pineapple. Came out thick so i poured it out to a bowl and mixed in the left over from the pan to thin it out. Cherry and Pineapple BBQ Short Ribs i would say was a win. I will be making this again.
